Gimme a beat

Filed under: Music • Comments: 2

Running is not my thing. It’s just…what’s the word? Boring. I’d much rather attend aerobics classes. I think it might be because I’m a frustated dancer, hehe! But ever since my hunny started on his campaign to get fit, I’ve been running on the treadmill more. I’ve even started running outside. Something I thought I’d never be able to do on account of my two bum knees (doing aerobics 5hrs a day, 6 days a week for 4yrs will do that to you).

So how do I survive my 30-minute treadmill and 4K park runs? By listening to music. I even bought a Zen Stone (I almost, almost bought an Ipod Shuffle for the clip-on function!) just for running. The right music can help you pace yourself or push you to finish that last last kilometer. It also keeps me entertained. Here are my current favorites in no particular order.

  1. Hey  Jealousy – Gin Blossoms
  2. Low Rider – War
  3. Miss Independent – Ne-Yo
  4. Closer – Ne-Yo
  5. Walk This Way – Aerosmith  (power song 1)
  6. Highway Star – Deep Purple (power song 2)
  7. Layla – Derek and the Dominos
  8. Cemetery Gates – Pantera (power song 3)
  9. Stop The Rock – Apollo 440
  10. Precious Declaration – Collective Soul
  11. Under A Glass Moon – Dream Theater
  12. Everlong – Foo Fighters
  13. Breakout – Foo Fighters

So far, I’ve only changed the tunes on my Zen twice but I’m feeling the itch to change it again. To my runner friends out there, what songs are in your mp3 players?

Famous Amos

Filed under: Music • Comments: None

My ex-future-second-husband (first is of course Jason Mraz), Amos Lee, has just released his third studio album Last Days At The Lodge.

Last Days At The Lodge

This is probably his best one yet. The song Jails and Bombs, a personal favorite for 4 years now, has been given a new jazzy arrangement and is included in this album.

If you have $18 to spare, please support Amos. I really, really love him. :) Haha!

And love it only ends
when there’s nothing left to defend
Will we ever see
The common bond of humanity

New Journey

Filed under: Music • Comments: 2

Late 70′s iconic band Journey has just released their new album Revelation. The band formerly led by Steve Perry has a new frontman — Pinoy artist Arnel Pineda! Arnel was discovered by guitarist Neal Schon on YouTube.

Revelation debuted at #5 this week on the Billboard Album Charts. Yay for Filipinos! :)

Currently loving…

Rockferry by Duffy. Her voice sounds like a cross between Dusty Springfield and Randy Crawford. Her music, a throwback to the 60′s or 70′s. She’s been compared to Amy Winehouse, but I think she sounds (and looks) a lot better. My favorite song from the album so far is Stepping Stone but Hanging On To Long, the intro riffs to which sounds like a mellowed out Heard It Through the Grapevine, is also fast becoming a must-listen.

If you have P500 to spare, I suggest you buy this CD. It’s a welcome respite from all the crappy pop music we’ve been forced listen to.
