Royally pix’d

Awful title, I know…I just couldn’t help myself. Har har! :)

The web is all a-buzz over the Queen having a Flickr account. My favorite photo is this. Why can’t I look like Audrey Hepburn again?

I never understood why women need to wear those feathery hat things. How many birds do you think die every year in the name of fashion?

Et tu?

Sarah Palin compares herself to Shakespeare. Egads! My cousin (Ron on my blogroll) would probably blow an artery over this blasphemy. Don’t you need to master the English language first before you start making up your own words?

To set the record straight, it’s not so much that Shakespeare coined new words (although he did in some cases). He used a technique called functional shift which is basically word syntax conversion. For example:

Loved me above the measure of a father;
Nay, godded me, indeed. — Coriolanus

‘God’ in this case is used as a verb. Some studies have shown that reading Shakespeare actually helps exercise the brain. I’m pretty sure you don’t get the same effect from reading Palin.

From shakespalin:

“To be though, really,
in this great country of ours,
is though, not to be.
That is the question here,
today in America. Also.”

Licensed to drive

DAY 26: Still want to go home? Check.

It’s been a tough 4 weeks for me and Paolo but now things are finally picking up…I hope.

A lot has happened since last I wrote: 1) Paolo and I learned how to paint a room without using painter’s tape…and we’re awesome! We trimmed and painted 3 ceilings and the equivalent of 2 rooms; 2) We moved into the new house; 3) We celebrated our 3rd year wedding anniversary and first US Independence Day last July 4th; and 4) We passed the DMV driving test! Today!!! Yes, we are now licensed NJ drivers. Now if we only had a car, it would be perfect. :)

There’s one more bit of news (good or bad, I’m not sure) but I’ll talk about that next time. For now, au revoir.
